Two young college grads, who’d been friends since high school, pursued what most grads do and got corporate jobs. Successful by most people’s standards, they chugged along with the 9-5 grind but realized something was missing and wondered: was this all there was?
One night, while grabbing a drink in Morristown, NJ, Dan presented an idea to Jeff; “What would you think about starting a business together?” Jeff inquired, “Like what?” ”How about junk hauling?” At first Jeff said, “You want me to give up the suit and become a garbage man? You’ve got to be kidding me!” But, after scribbling on a napkin and going into a little more detail, Jeff came around to the idea. Soon enough, he gave up the suit.
Soon thereafter, Jeff and Dan purchased a $600 van that they affectionately referred to as the “rolling death trap” and began plastering advertisements all over northern New Jersey. Junk-A-Haulics was in business! For their very first job, they helped a local family clean out their house. They were, of course, big “theater people,” and somehow incorporated a coffin into their home aesthetic. Just like that, hours into their first moving experience, they were filling a coffin with all manner of colorful stage props.
Jeff, now the sole owner, has since moved on to more conventional jobs but we still encounter some exciting situations and crazy items whether it be combing through six feet high stacks of newspapers at a hoarders home, digging up a whole basement full of antique car parts or trying to remove a 500 pound 1920s cast iron stove…we’ve seen it all.
To this day, the Junk-A-Haulics continues to live by our slogan “The Professionals in a Dirty Business” through adhering to the highest standards of professionalism and providing you, the client, with an experience that has no equal. Our clean-cut, friendly and energetic teams provide you with an unparalleled service that creates peace of mind and takes away the stress of a cluttered living space. We continue our commitment to these principles of professionalism and look forward to serving you for the many years to come!
